Find & Buy - Guide to Buying

Vehicle Details

You may receive details of vehicles to be sold by purchasing a catalogue from reception or down loading a free auction catalogue. Vehicles are offered in the order that they appear in the catalogue at the rate of approximately 50 an hour. ManheimFowles do not own any vehicles for sale. Vehicles are sold on a consignment basis only.

Viewing Vehicles

Vehicles can be inspected the day prior to auction from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and from 8:00 am auction day.

Vehicle Condition

Each vehicle is road tested and a Road Test Report is displayed on the vehicle. The Road Test Report is a guide only and there are no associated guarantees. FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY REASONS YOU CANNOT TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLES OR START THE ENGINE. Each vehicle is driven through our auction lanes.

It’s Easy to Register

Registering to bid is free. Before you can bid at any auction you must fill in a Buyer Registration Card which is available in the main foyer. Alternatively, click here to print a Buyer Registration Card that you can pre-complete and immediately take to the counter together with your photo id to obtain your buyer number on view or auction day. By filling in this form you agree to the ‘Terms and Conditions of Sale’ written on the form. You will need to provide photographic identification to register, you may use either your current Australian drivers license or passport. Once you have completed your details on the form take it to reception with your identification to receive your Buyer Number.

Buyer Number

This number will allow you to bid on vehicles at any ManheimFowles auction being held on that day. You will need to apply for a new number each auction site you attend. There is no cost involved in registering to bid and you are under no obligation to bid once you receive the buyer's number, however you cannot bid on a vehicle without this number.

Bidding

To bid on a vehicle you must get the attention of the Auctioneer. You can do this by holding up your hand or waving your buyer's number. Bidding usually increases by $500 or $100 increments, however the Auctioneer can nominate a higher or lower amount. The rise is at the Auctioneer’s discretion.

You cannot withdraw a bid once you have made it. If your bid is successful you will be requested to hold up your buyers number.

Deposits

After successfully bidding you will be approached by a ManheimFowles Deposit Clerk who will request a minimum 10% deposit or $500 whichever is the greater in the form of cash or bank cheque.

Reserve Prices

A reserve price is placed on most vehicles. A reserve price is the amount the seller would like to achieve for the vehicle.

Referral

If the bid is below the seller’s reserve price then it will be either ‘passed in’ or ‘referred’ in favour of the highest bidder and discussed with the seller. You should report to the Auctioneers’ rostrum and await the referral result.

GST Inclusive

All auction bid prices are GST inclusive, unless the owner of the goods is not registered for GST (in which case no GST is payable on the lot bid for). Lots to be sold on behalf of owners not registered for GST will be separately identified in the catalogue.

Paying for Vehicles

The balance of money owed on the vehicle after your deposit should be paid by 4:00 pm the next business day after the sale. A Buyer’s Administration Fee is also applicable to each vehicle sold in public auctions. Payment can be made in the form of cash, bank cheque, credit card (processing fee applies), BPay (overnight transaction) or Direct Deposit (can be an overnight transaction). Purchase of 2 or more vehicles requires payment for all vehicles in full before any can exit the site.

Collecting Vehicles

Once you have fully paid for your vehicle the vehicles will be released. All vehicles must however be collected no later than 4pm the next business day after the sale.

Vehicle Licensing

It is illegal to drive an unlicensed vehicle. Please contact the Land Transport Safety Authority on 0800 108 809 for further information.
